England's World Cup cricket captain Eoin Morgan has been the victim of an attempted blackmail over a relationship with a former girlfriend.

The England and Wales Cricket Board issued a statement that said an Australian man had demanded a five-figure sum to prevent a story about Morgan and a previous girlfriend appearing in national newspapers in Australia and Britain.
The statement said the allegations related to a brief relationship Morgan had with an Australian woman five years ago.
England cricket officials approached the man, who is understood to be in a relationship with the woman.
He admitted and apologised for his actions, blaming jealousy.
