The New Zealand netballers have returned home following last week's Oceania Netball series in Suva where they enjoyed huge wins over Fiji and Samoa.

Despite the lopsided scorelines Wilson says they were able to achieve what they set out, in that all 12 players got significant court time and a range of combinations were trialled.

In the past retired shooter Irene van Dyk and Maria Tutaia were almost guaranteed to start in the shooting end but Wilson says with youngsters Bailey Mes and Ellen Halpenny in the mix, there's a lot more competition.

Wilson says when you have someone yapping at your heels it makes you train and play harder.

She says competition is good for the Ferns and that is what they need to make sure they have the best team at the World Cup.

The World Cup is being held in Sydney in August.
