New Zealand will go into the opening match of the tournament against Sri Lanka on Saturday in Christchurch on the back of a 134-run win over South Africa in warm up match in Christchurch yesterday.
The Black Caps have emerged as third favourites behind world number ones Australia and the South Africans.
South Africa all-rounder JP Duminy echoed those sentiments following yesterday's heavy loss.
He says the Black Caps will be tough to beat in the tournament's knockout stages and is wary of the threat they pose.
"You know New Zealand's always been a side that's been street smart in the way they go about their business. You've seen they are a pretty well balanced team, they've got good all-rounders, good bowlers, good death bowlers and guys that can come in and dominate on top of the innings. So they are definitely going to contend for that quarter-final and semi-final spot. It's going to be a tight one up there, you know I guess it's about peaking at the right time."
New Zealand wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi says it's important the side also believes it can go all the way.
"You don't want to go in there doubting yourself so if we go in with a positive mind frame and know we can beat any side when we're on our day and playing well that's a good thing and if we go out and perform the way we should you know we've got a big chance."
The opening ceremony in Christchurch starts at 6.30 tonight.
