Phoenix head coach Ernie Merrick says Boyd has been keen to move to Europe.

He says they've known for some time that Tyler wanted to play in Europe and they wish him all the best for the future.

Boyd was part of the Phoenix' first intake to its Football School of Excellence and the 20-year-old was signed on a three-year professional contract.

Boyd has struggled to crack the first team and has played most of the season in the reserves.

He's played 48 games for the Phoenix with 16 starts and scored four goals.

Boyd is a current All White.
