Mystics beat Tactix

The Northern Mystics have beaten the Canterbury Tactix 59-53 in their trans-Tasman netball Championship clash in Christchurch.

The Tactix led 17-10 after the first quarter and 29-26 at half time.

The Mystics started with rookie goal shoot Elsa Brown, who shot 4 from 7, before being replaced by the experienced Cathrine Latu who finished with 32 from 35, while goal attack Maria Tutaia was 23 from 28.

Mwai Kumwenda of Malawi shot 36 from 39 for the Tactix.

The Mystics' new midcourters Camilla Lees and English import Serena Guthrie both impressed as the visitors took the lead in the third quarter.

In other first round games over the weekend, the Magic beat the Adelaide Thunderbirds 45-44, the Melbourne Vixens beat the Pulse 64-40, and the New South Wales Swifts beat the Southern Steel 68-62.
