Crusaders thrash Lions

6:26 pm on 14 March 2015

The Crusaders have run away with their home Super Rugby game against South African side the Lions, winning 34-6 to record their second victory of the season.

Leading 13-3 at half-time in Christchurch after a fifth-minute try to former All Blacks halfback Andy Ellis, the Crusaders turned up the intensity to run in three more tries.

A 55th-minute penalty try, after sustained pressure at scrum-time, was followed two minutes later by a Kieron Fonotia try, set up by a break from Fijian wing Nemani Nadolo.

The returning Kieran Read scored an intercept try on 77 minutes for the bonus point.

Fellow All Black Daniel Carter, back from a leg injury rather than an enforced rest, kicked all four conversions and added two penalties for a personal haul of 14 points.
