McCullum's 100 not out off 56 balls included nine sixes, two of which he ramped over the wicketkeeper's head and another reverse pulled from the bowling of fellow Black Cap, Trent Boult.

The century is McCullum's first for the Super Kings in his second season as Chennai claimed their second straight win to start the Twenty/20 competition.

McCullum was named man of the match.

He was bought for more than 600 thousand dollars at auction.

Helped by a quick-fire half century from the Indian captain MS Dhoni, the Super Kings finished on 209 for four.

Their opponents, the Hyderabad Sunrisers, fell 45 runs short.

Black Cap Kane Williamson finished not out on 26 runs from 18 deliveries for the Sunrisers.
