A huge blunder by Mercedes team officials cost Lewis Hamilton victory at the Monaco Grand Prix but handed the chequered flag to his teammate Nico Rosberg who became only the fourth driver to claim three straight wins in the glamour event.
Rosberg trailed his teammate and championship leader Hamilton for 63 laps until an accident prompted a safety car intervention that led the team to call in Hamilton for an unexpected and unnecessary pit-stop.
Hamilton had led by 21 seconds when he pitted, but when he rejoined the race he'd dropped to third place, and with only eight laps to go it was impossible to get his lead back.
He ended up finishing third behind Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari.
The two Red Bulls finished fourth and fifth.
