Kent wicketkeeper Sam Billings is the only uncapped player named in the 14-man squad.

ECB national selector James Whitaker says this series presents an excellent opportunity to look at players they believe can play a key role for England over the next four years as they build towards the next Cricket World Cup.

Whitaker says they've opted to rest Moeen Ali from this series and he will play cricket for Worcestershire in preparation for the Ashes next month.

He says it's important to point out that none of the players left out have been ruled out of playing a role for England in limited overs formats in the future.

New Zealand reached the final of this year's World Cup while England failed to get past the group stage.

New Zealand drew the Test series 1-all after winning the second Test in Headingley by 199 runs.

New Zealand play Leicestershire in a one day game this weekend before heading into the England series.
