Mystics midcourter named best new talent

The England and Mystics wing defence Serena Guthrie has capped a strong debut season in the ANZ Championship, winning the competition's best new talent award.

The 25 year old Guthrie has been key to her New Zealand side's return to finals action for the first time in three years with the Auckland-based Mystics topped the New Zealand conference.

Guthrie, who has played 51 Tests for England, joined the team this season after spending seven seasons in the UK Super League.

She has impressed with her speed and athleticism and will be one of the stars of England's world cup campaign in August.

Guthrie is ranked third in the competition for intercepts and finished in the top 10 for deflections and gains.

She's the first midcourt player to win the award since it was introduced in 2010.
