Like his father a right-handed middle-order batsman and right-arm medium-pacer, Austin scored 47 runs and took seven wickets as New South Wales went through undefeated in winning the Australia under-15s title.

Waugh was one of six NSW players selected in the 13-strong national under-16 squad.

Also in the squad is Victorian allrounder Will Sutherland, son of Cricket Australia chief executive James.

South Australia's Bailey Capel was the tournament's leading run-scorer with 171 runs at an average of 57 and was named as one of three stand-by players.

The tournament's leading wicket-taker, West Australian Luke Cheshire - who took 17 wickets at 9.12 - missed out on selection.

The team will be coached by former Australian Test batsman and recent Queensland Bulls coach Stuart Law and will play in the national under-17s championships in October.
