The New Zealand cricket team have been given a pass mark by their coach after a disappointing end to their tour of England.

The Black Caps ended their tour with a 56-run loss in the one off T20 at Manchester following a 3-2 loss in the one day series and the drawn two match Test series.

The coach Mike Hesson says while the results in the shorter format were dissapointing he was pleased for the opportunity to blood new players.

He says they've found out a lot about some of their new players moving forward in the short form of the game.

Hesson says he's impressed by the progress made by the rookie all rounder Mitchell Santner during the tour of England.

Hesson says Santner's game has come a long way but there is still room for improvement.

He says he's got a lot more to show with the bat, while he's developing as a bowler.

The English now prepare to take on the Australians in the Ashes series, while New Zealand takes a break before a limited overs series against South Africa.
