The New Zealand women's cricket side has lost the opening one dayer against India in Bengaluru by 17 runs.
The White Ferns restricted the hosts to 142 in just over 44 overs after India had been 55 for six at one stage.
Seamer Lea Tahuhu, spinner Morna Nielsen and former Scotland representative Leigh Kasperek who was making her White Ferns debut all took three wickets.

New Zealand though struggled with the bat despite some sloppy India fielding losing wickets at regular intervals to be all out for 125 in the 46th over.
The White Ferns captain Suzie Bates said they bowled well after a week of acclimatisation but described their batting effort as timid.
"We wanted go out and play our natural shots, but they bowled tightly and we perhaps weren't brave enough with some our shot selections, missing opportunities to push the field back," said Bates.
"Leigh (Kasperek) did a really good job and it was a shame someone couldn't stick with her at the end to give her a good win in her first game. We need to come back out in Game Two with far more intent."
The second match in the five games series is on Wednesday.
