Marina Erakovic, New Zealand's only hope at the ASB Tennis Classic, has been knocked out in the first round losing 6-4 6-3 to Frenchwoman Alize Cornet.
Erakovic, playing in her first international tournament since returning from injury, showed glimpses of her potential with some deft touches close to the net.
However the Frenchwoman was ultimately too strong for the New Zealander, winning the match in straight sets.
