Organisers banking on lower attrition rate at ASB Classic

Organisers of the ASB women's tennis classic will be hoping the attrition rate of the leading lights tapers off today

Second seed Li Na and local hope Marina Erakovic fell by the way side yesterday in first round matches.

Top seed Flavia Pennetta of Italy is first on centre court this morning with third seed Yanina Wickmayer also involved in second round action.

Meanwhile Erakovic is left pondering her prospects ahead of the first grand slam of the year, the Australian Open which starts in two weeks time.

Erakovic is on the comeback trail after a year blighted by injury and has dropped out of the top 50.

However she says that's no excuse for her peformance and she's feels in good form on the practice court but is unable to transfer it to her match play.
