The former New Zealand cricket international Chris Cairns is threatening to sue the Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi.
Modi removed Cairns from a list of players being considered for this year's IPL competition.
The BBC is reporting that lawyers acting on behalf of Cairns say Modi's explanations for removing him are completely unfounded and defamatory.
Modi though is standing by his comments and told the BBC that Cairns' lawyers are more than welcome to do what they have to do.
