Last minute end-to-end try seals sevens title for Waikato

Waikato have won the national rugby sevens tournament in Queenstown, beating Bay of Plenty 21-14 in the final.

Bay of Plenty led 14-7 at half-time but the Mooloos captain Tim Mikkleson scored a long range individual try with time up to seal the title in dramatic fashion over the Steamers.

It's the first win for Waikato at the tournament for 12 years and augurs well for the Chiefs in this year's Super 14, with both finalists partners in the franchise.

Earlier in the semi-finals Waikato beat Counties-Manukau 12-0 and Bay of Plenty beat Taranaki 19-17.
