The top seed Tommy Robredo of Spain is through to the quarterfinals of the Heineken Tennis Open, but had to survive two tiebreakers in his second round match, against the unseeded Simon Greul of Germany.

Robredo won 7-6, 7-6.

New Zealand's Rubin Statham was eliminated in the second round, losing in straight sets to the eighth seed Albert Montanes of Spain, 6-7, 2-6.

Earlier the third seed Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain was forced to concede his second round match to the Swiss qualifier Michael Lammer.

Ferrero twisted his right ankle during a rally in the first set, when he was down 1-3 and although he tried, was unable to continue and is also in doubt for next week's Australian Open.
