The New Zealand Breakers have retained a slim chance of making the Australian National basketball League playoffs after their point guard Kirk Penney sparked a welcome 103-89 home win over Adelaide with a club record 49 points.

The Breakers' first win of the year snaps a four game losing streak but they still have to win four of thier last five games and hope other results go their way.

CJ Bruton scored 20 and Dillon Boucher had 10. with seven rebounds, in a great defensive display for the Breakers who still conceded a 15-point lead in the third quarter at North Shore Events Centre after leading 55-40 at half-time..

But with the score tied at 82-all with just over seven minutes remaining Bruton landed a three pointer and Penney kept up his scoring rate to ensure the home side shut out the 36ers. who could score only seven points in the last stages.
