Hewitt buzzing ahead of Federer showdown

6:12 am on 25 January 2010

Their past results have been too one-sided to make it a classic rivalry, but there is always a buzz in the air when Roger Federer and Lleyton Hewitt square off.

The pair will meet each other in a fourth round encounter at the Australian today and for the tournament's organisers, it is a promotional dream: The world number one against the best and last local hope.

It hardly matters that Hewitt has lost his last 14 matches against the Swiss master and is sliding down the rankings as his injuries have mounted.

Hewitt is nothing if not a fighter and the thought of playing Federer for a spot in the quarter-finals in front of a packed Rod Laver Arena in prime-time viewing has him excited.

Australia's last remaining woman in the draw is also up against the world number one today with but Samantha Stosur taking on Serena Williams.
