Ryder to miss IPL through injury

Injured New Zealand cricketer Jesse Ryder will miss this year's Indian Premier League Twenty20 series because he's been unable to recover from a groin injury in time.

Ryder aggravated the injury during the ICC Champions Trophy tournament last September and has been unable to play international cricket since.

The New Zealand Cricket general manager of cricket Geoff Allott says Ryder's groin injury is taking longer to rehabilitate than was originally hoped.

Ryder's manager Aaron Klee says the batsman's disappointed to miss out on this year's IPL, but Ryder's first priority is to be fit for the Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies in May.

Klee says Ryder understands rushing back into action before he's fully recovered would jeopardise his involvement in the Twenty20 World Cup and future IPL tournaments.
