Hot favourite Red Ruler has won the $250,000 Wellington Cup at Trentham.
The Matamata-trained gelding ridden by Mark du Plessis came through to take the lead on the straight to finish ahead of Awesome Planet and Manonamission, who dead-heated for second.
The five-year-old adds the Wellington Cup to the City of Auckland Cup he won on New Years Day, and the leadup event the weight-for-age Trentham Stakes last weekend.
