Victory appeal Muscat ban

2:35 pm on 2 February 2010

The Melbourne football club are to appeal against the two-match A-League suspension handed to captain Kevin Muscat for striking Gold Coast skipper Jason Culina.

Muscat was charged with serious rough conduct for the incident in the first half of the Victory's 1-nil loss to United at Skilled Park last Friday night.

The ban threatens to rule Muscat out of the Victory's last two regular season matches, seriously harming their minor premiership chances.

But the Victory confirmed they would be appealing against both the guilty verdict and the severity of the charge.

Even if Muscat's ban is downgraded to one week it means he would be available for the crucial final-round showdown with Sydney FC.

It is likely Muscat's hearing will take place in Sydney on Wednesday night.

The Victory are already facing a selection drama ahead of Friday's match against North Queensland at Etihad Stadium with Archie Thompson (ankle) and Robbie Kruse (shoulder) rated only 50-50 chances of playing.
