FIA proposes rule changes

6:26 am on 3 February 2010

Proposed Formula One rule changes including the introduction of a new points system will be submitted to the World Motorsport Council within 48 hours.

The re-designed scoring system would award the race winner 25 points, with 18 for the runner-up, down to one point for 10th place.

The Formula One Commission is also recommending the first 10 drivers on the grid should start the race with the same tyres they used in the final qualifying session, to introduce a further element of strategy.

And the FIA is moving to exclude the controversial "double diffusers" used by the Brawn team last year, which several teams claimed were illegal.
