Solid return for Taylor as North win battle of islands

Ross Taylor has enjoyed a promising return to cricket by helping his North team take the island of origin title off South.

North won the Twenty20 match by six wickets, easily chasing down South's total in Wellington after the defending champs won the toss and decided to bat first at the Basin Reserve.

South lost wickets at regular intervals and were dismissed in the final over for 126 runs.

Dean Brownlie top scored with 29 runs.

Spinner Ish Sodhi had a man of the man performance with the ball, after taking four wickets for 24 runs.

North chased down the runs comfortably after opener George Worker made 53 off 30.

Black Caps batsman Ross Taylor, who has been sidelined through injury for five weeks, guided his side to victory after making 26 not out.

Taylor is heading to the Twenty20 World Cup in India next week.
