Knights to seek board approval for Mason move

6:44 pm on 3 February 2010

The Newcastle Knights football committee wants its board to open negotiations with the management of the National Rugby League outcast Willie Mason.

The committee met today to discuss whether to pursue the former Test and New South Wakes forward after he was told there was no future for him at the Sydney Roosters.

Mason has had several clubs rule themselves out of seeking his services, including Melbourne and Manly, leaving the Knights or North Queensland as his likely destination.

The Knights chief executive, Steve Burraston, says they've contacted their main sponsors and most feel approaching Mason is the right decision.

And Burraston says a website poll shows 83 per cent in support of having Mason at the club this season.
