The English Premier league football club Portsmouth have been given extra time to fight a winding-up petition, following a move to place the club in administration over an outstanding tax bill of 11.5 million pounds.
For the moment, Portsmouth's lawyers have prevented the club from making history as the first in the Premier League to be placed in administration, which would lead to a 9-point penalty and effectively condemn Portsmouth to relegation.
Portsmouth have lost 17 of their 25 matches this season, and they're bottom of the table and six points adrift of Bolton, the club occupying the last survival spot.
A Hong Kong-based businessman took a controlling interest last week in the 112 year old club which has had a succession of foreign owners.
Cardiff City, the side Portsmouth beat in the 2008 FA Cup final, are also facing a winding-up order from British tax authorities.
