Americas Cup opener postponed for second time

6:15 am on 11 February 2010

The opening race of the 33rd Americas Cup was abandonned for a second time last night because of rough conditions, two days after it was postponed because there wasn't enough wind.

Waves of more than a metre high were deemed to be too much for the fast but fragile high-tech multi-hull boats.

The first race in the best-of-three series between the Cup holder Alinghi and the challenger Oracle has been rescheduled for tomorrow night.
