The young Wellington Phoenix football striker Costa Barbarouses has opted to leave Wellington club in pursuit of regular game time at Brisbane Roar FC.

The 20-year-old has signed a three-year deal with Brisbane after three seasons with the New Zealand-based club.

Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata says the loss of Barbarouses is disappointing for the club but Phoenix officials back his rationale.

Barbarouses played 21 matches for the Phoenix in three seasons and scored two goals.

He has represented New Zealand at under-17 level - where he captained his country at the 2007 World Cup tournament in Korea - as well as at under-20 and under-23 levels.

In November 2008 he made his senior debut for the All Whites against Fiji during the World Cup \qualifying process.
