The re-emphasis on refereeing the tackled ball law as it was originally intended triggered the rash of penalties, with the Hurricanes slotting a Super rugby record of nine.
And another change the SANZAR referees have agreed to resulted in the referee Stuart Dickinson attending the post match news conference.
The Australian says it'll take several weeks for players to get their timing and combinations right and to get used to the way the tackled ball law's being refereed.
Dickinson says it's important they signposted the new interpretations and while it'll result in some early teething pains, players will adjust.
He doesn't like blowing lots of penalties, but says if it has to be done until the changes bed in, it has to be done.
