Kiwi 'Canuck' gets buzz out of silver fern

Sarah Murphy may have come only 82nd in the women's 7.5km biathlon sprint at the Winter Olymnpics-- but the Canadian-born Kiwi still got a huge buzz out of competing for New Zealand.

The 21-year-old who coaches biathlon and cross country in her spare time is also New Zealand's first biathlete and says she's competing at Whistler to learn.

The International Biathlon Federation signed off on her eligibility for the squad only a week before the Games so Murphy was doubly pleased just to have the opportunity to compete.

Murphy is also down to race the 15km individual on Friday, then the 12.5 kilometre mass start three days later.

She qualifies because her mother's from Wellington.

New Zealand's only Winter Games medal is Annelise Coberger's slalom silver at Albertville in 1992.
