New South Wales has pipped Queensland at the death to avoid a State of Origin series whitewash with centre Michael Jennings scoring a last gasp try to seal an 18-14 victory.
Jennings ripped through a retreating Queensland defence with a minute remaining to secure the win, before skipper Paul Gallen wrapped up his Origin career with a successful conversion.
Only minutes earlier it looked as though the Maroons had pulled off their own miracle, with Darius Boyd benefitting from a Josh Mansour slip to put his side in front for the first time in the second half.
In the end they could not complete the 3-0 sweep, meaning their own retiring great, Corey Parker, finished with a loss, though he will be content with the bigger prize of the Origin shield.
Queensland captain Cameron Smith was named man of the series.
