Former Black Caps out of pocket from MCL

Eleven former Black Caps players are among a group of former international cricketers who still haven't been paid for playing in the Masters Champions League tournament held in Dubai earlier this year.

The chairman of the Federation of International Cricketers Associations, Tony Irish, says despite several undertakings from the tournament organiser Zafar Shah many players still have not received payments from February's tournament with some having received less than a quarter of their fee.

Former Black Caps Dan Vettori, Jeetan Patel, Kyle Mills, James Franklin, Scott Styris, Hamish Marshall, Andy McKay, Ian Butler, Shane Bond, Nathan Astle, Jacob Oram all played in the tournament.

Irish says the event organisers have also simply ignored attempts by FICA, players and player agents to remedy the situation.

"Systematic breaches of professional player contracts in cricket, such as this, are unacceptable. The MCL was an approved cricket event, under the jurisdiction of the Emirates Cricket Board," said Irish.

"As part of the ongoing work on the global structure of the game, we will be proposing an international dispute resolution body, and contract enforcement mechanism in cricket. Players, Boards, clubs and leagues would all benefit from such a mechanism."
