Black Caps make positive start

New Zealand are 71-1 at lunch on day two of the first cricket test against India in Kanpur.

The home side started the day at 291 for nine and got through to 318 before pace bowler Neil Wagner picked up the final wicket, after Ravi Jadeja (42 not out) and Umesh Yadav (9) put on 41 for the tenth wicket.

Wagner finished with figures of 2-42, while fellow pace bowler Trent Boult took 3-67 and spinner Mitchell Santner took 3-94.

Spinners Ish Sodhi and Mark Craig also took a wicket each.

Opener Martin Guptill is the New Zealand batsman out, dismissed lbw for 21.

Tom Latham is on 25 and skipper skipper Kane Williamson 21.
