The former All Blacks first five Carlos Spencer says he never thought he'd play rugby for a South African side...up until a month ago that was.
Spencer's joined the Johannesburg based Lions from English club Gloucester and is back in New Zealand to play the Hurricanes in Wellington on Saturday night.
He says the opportunity came out of the blue and admits he's still adjusting to the pace of the game after five years in England.
The opportunity to get involved in some coaching was also an attraction he says.
