Montpellier head coach Jake White is reportedly set to leave the club at the end of this season, with Cotter his likely replacement.

The former Springbok boss, who last term led his side to Challenge Cup success, has been in charge at the French club since December 2014.

But according to L'Equiqe it appears his tenure will come to an end after the 2016/17 season as their president, Mohed Altrad, will look to replace him with Scotland head coach Cotter.

The report says Altrad has not forgiven White for putting himself forward for the England job in 2015.

Last month, the Scottish Rugby Union confirmed that Cotter will leave in June 2017, with Gregor Townsend taking over at Murrayfield.

White, 52, has coached South Africa, the Brumbies, the Sharks, Tonga (technical advisor) and Montpellier, since 2007 and led the Boks to a Rugby World Cup win in 2007.

His Montpellier side currently sit in third place in the Top 14 after winning four of their first six games.
