Fiji-born Tamanivalu burst onto the New Zealand rugby scene in 2012 with Taranaki, joining the Chiefs in 2015.

He made his All Black debut against Wales earlier this year.

Tamanivalu replaces Robbie Fruean in the Crusaders squad, with Fruean having signed for the English club Bath.

Meanwhile prop Pauliasi Manu will move back to the Blues next year after leaving Auckland to play for the Chiefs in 2013.

The Tongan-born Aucklander was called in to the All Blacks as stand-by cover late in their successful Rugby World Cup campaign last year.

Manu joins fellow Counties-Manukau players Jimmy Tupou, Augustine Pulu and Sonny-Bill Williams in the 2017 Blues lineup.
