Taniwha back to winning ways

7:16 pm on 2 October 2016

The Northland rugby team have won their first provincial game in almost exactly two years.

The Taniwha have beaten Waikato 48-27 in Whangarei, one day short of two years since they last won on the national stage.

It's a blow to Waikato's Premiership playoff hopes, but they're still in the race for semi-final spots with a couple of games remaining.

Northland remain dead last in the Championship.
