French newspaper L'Equipe says Carter, who plays for the Paris based club Racing 92, "has been cleared and was notified following an investigation by the medical commission of the French Rugby Federation."

The 34-year-old first-five, along with team-mates Juan Imhoff and Rokocoko, tested positive for corticosteroids after the Top 14 Final in Barcelona in June.

The trio attended a a French Rugby Federation anti-doping hearing last week and L'Equipe is reporting that Carter has 'been cleared' with Rokocoko and Argentina winger Imhoff set to be 'informed of the same outcome'.

Racing responded to the reports yesterday, stating that neither the players nor the club had been informed of any official decision.
