Adams, who was picked up 12th in the 2013 draft, is in his third year with the Thunder on a salary of about $US3m per season.

He has the option to stay on from one more year, sign an extension before the end of the month, or he go to free agency at the end of this season.

Matt Moore, writing for CBS, is reporting that Adams is well worth the money being talked about and that the Thunder was keen to lock him in for another four years.

Adams is the second best player in the team behind Russell Westbrook, who has signed a three-year contract with the Thunder for $US85m.

Mr Moore said Adams' representatives were in talks with the Thunder and were hoping to finalise something in the next 24 hours.

Adams is averaging 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds after two games of the new season.
