The Crusaders assistant coach Mark Hammett has been confirmed as the new Hurricanes head coach for two years from 2011.

The former All Black hooker replaces current boss Colin Cooper, who's had the job since 2003.

Hurricanes Technical Advisor and fellow former All Black Alama Ieremia will be the Assistant Coach under Hammett, while current Hurricanes assistant Jono Philips moves into the role of High Performance Manager.

Hammett says the Hurricanes already have a strong and proud team and he's looking forward to stepping up to the responsibility of being a Head Coach.

The Hurricanes Chief Executive Greg Peters says Hammett's current Super 14 experience with the Crusaders will be a huge benefit to the Hurricanes.
