Rain fell in Christchurch overnight and showers have continued this morning.

A New Zealand Cricket spokesman says it is unlikely there will be any play before noon at the earliest.

Our reporter in Christchurch feels there is a good chance there won't be any play at all today.

The umpires will inspect the ground later this morning.

This is the first of Two Tests in the series, with the second in Hamilton next week.
