Breakers look to veterans to lift them from slump

8:20 am on 8 December 2016

The New Zealand Breakers will look to arrest their horror run of form when they host the Brisbane Bullets in their NBL basketball clash tonight in Auckland.

Last year's runners-up sit dead last in this seasons points standings following four straight losses.

Coach Paul Henare said the veterans in the group must lead the team out of their form slump.

"This group, especially the core guys that've been here a long time, we've been, for whatever reason, we've been involved in situations like this where we have a bit of a so-called form slump and we've been able to get our way out of it," he said.

"What's important is that we keep tapping into what's important to us to find our way out of it."

Henare has called on his team to bring back the "nasty" as they look to get their spluttering NBL basketball season back on track.

"I've been too nice. I think as a group, we're too nice right now and I think we need to bring back a little bit of nasty and that's not all of a sudden we hate each other, it's about holding each other accountable for when we slip below our standards, and that's happening far too often right now."

The Breakers and Brisbane Bullets will tip-off at Vector Arena tonight at 7.30pm.
