The two-time Olympic decathlon champion Ashton Eaton has announced his retirement, with the American saying he'd given everything he could to the sport.
The 28-year-old, who holds the world record in both the decathlon and indoor heptathlon events, won gold in the multi-event discipline at the 2012 London Olympics and successfully defended his crown at the Rio Games last year.
Eaton made the announcement on twitter, saying he gave everything to the decathlon and did all he could.
He also thanked fans for making it the best time of his life.
On his website, Eaton admitted there wasn't much more he wanted to do in sport.
