The Black Caps have beaten Bangladesh by 47 runs in their second Twenty20 cricket international to win the series with a match still to play.

A 53-ball century from batsman Colin Munro helped the New Zealanders post a formidable 195 run target at Mount Maunganui's Bay Oval.

But it wasn't all smooth sailing for the home side.

The New Zealanders were put into bat by Bangladesh, who won the toss and elected to bowl first, and got off to a horror start, with Luke Ronchi caught out on the first ball of the match.

Munro and captain Kane Williamson quickly put on 42 runs between them before Williamson was caught for 12.

His replacement, Corey Anderson, followed him to the sheds just three balls later after being bowled out for four runs.

But Munro and new partner Tom Bruce steadied the innings with a partnership of 123, before Bangladesh scored a breakthrough when Nurul Hasan caught the big-hitting Munro off Rubel Hossain's bowling.

Munro's 101 came off just 53 balls.

Colin de Grandhomme lasted just two balls before he was bowled by Hossain for two, while Jimmy Neesham scored five off the five balls he faced before he became Hossain's third wicket.

Mitchell Santner was run out for four off the penultimate ball of the innings.

Tom Bruce, playing in just his second T20 for New Zealand, was the second highest New Zealand scorer, ending the match with an impressive 59 not out off 39 balls.

Bangladesh fight back

The Black Caps bowlers got the second innings off to a great start, with spinner Santner dismissing opener Imrul Kayes for none in the first over.

New Zealand soon had the visitors on the ropes, with Bangladesh finding themselves on 36 for 3 merely four overs into their innings.

But Sabbir Rahman and Soumya Sarkar dug deep and put on 68 runs for the fourth wicket to bring the match to a point where it was anyone's game.

Adding to the Black Caps troubles was the loss of wicket keeper Luke Ronchi in the eighth over, who suffered a groin strain while chasing a loose ball.

He had to leave the field with the injury and was replaced behind the stumps by Tom Bruce, who has never kept in a first class match before.

But the tide Trent Boult struck in the 11th over, claiming Sakar's wicket when he was caught by Munro for 39, turning the tide for the New Zealanders.

Bangladesh's wickets then fell steadily, with the visitors only able to manage 148 before they ran out of batsmen.

Spinner Ish Sodhi was the best of the New Zealand bowlers with figures of 3 for 36, though Kane Williamson and Ben Wheeler also chipped in with two wickets apiece.

The victory gives New Zealand an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three match T20 series.

The third and final T20 will again be played in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.
