In a remarkable turnaround, the New Zealand Breakers have gone from potential wooden spooners to playoff contenders following last night's win over the Perth Wildcats in the Australian Basketball League.

The Breakers recorded their fourth win in a row last night, an 86-82 victory against the defending champions at Vector Arena in Auckland.

Just four weeks ago the Breakers were sitting in dead last and appeared to be heading for one of their worst seasons in club history.

Shooting guard Kirk Penney top scored for the home side with 25 points and managed six rebounds while American point guard Kevin Dillard managed 20 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Bryce Cotton was Perth's best performer last night, netting 26 points and three rebounds.

The Breakers were made to work hard for the win in the final quarter, 11 turnovers in the last 15 minutes cut their lead from 12 to just three points with less than a minute on the clock.

The homeside were able to hang on though and now sit in third on the NBL ladder with four games remaining in the regular season.
