Sydney haven't been beaten in 19 games and are 12 points clear at the top of the standings.

The Phoenix are 8th, two points outside the top six playoff places.

Defender Rhyan Grant opened the scoring with a header after just three minutes before turning provider as Bobo finished a well worked team goal midway through the opening half.

The Phoenix pulled a goal back before the break courtesy of a neat piece of trickery from Alex Rodriguez but hopes of a comeback were banished when Milos Ninkovic netted ten minutes after the interval.

The result means Graham Arnold's side have extended their lead at the top of the table ahead of the weekend's fixtures, while the Phoenix missed a chance to climb back into the top six.

The Wellington coach Des Buckingham says they started the first half second best and couldn't gain control of possession.

He says they turned the ball over far too much and therefore weren't able to play their game.

Buckingham says with eight games left and so they have to fight for every point to make sure they get into the play-offs in good form.
