Chasing a Duckworth Lewis revised total of 70 for victory in 13 overs, the Southern Stars finished on 61 for 9.

Peterson had batsmen Jonassen, Healy and Schutt caught from the first three balls of the final over as all looked to clear the boundary.

The rain delay at the start of Australia's innings followed a poor performance with the bat from the White Ferns who only scored 101 for 9 in twenty overs.

Captain Suzie Bates top scored with 30 off 20 balls.

In reply, 19 runs from Australia's Elyse Villani was the best the Southern Stars could muster before Peterson stepped up to end proceedings.

She finsihed with figures of three wickets for two runs off one over.

The three match series is now level at 1-1 with the decider to be played in Adelaide on Wednesday.
