Boult has failed to recover from the groin injury that ruled him out of the second Test in Wellington.
New Zealand are now without both opening bowlers after fellow paceman, Tim Southee, was ruled out earlier in the week with a hamstring injury.
Northern Districts speedster, Scott Kuggeleijn, has been called into the squad as cover.
