The Phoenix assistant coach Chris Greenacre says he's all for the Video Assistance Referee system that will be introduced in this weekend's round of the A-League.

The system may be called on by referees for such things as decisions on goals, penalties, red cards and mistaken identity.

Chris Greenacre said in their trial it didn't slow the game down and has the potential to make the game better.

"We've been on the end of some key decisions this season that have cost us valuable points through an error of judgment from officials or whoever .

"It's really important that those vital moments are sorted out because people's jobs are on the line," Greenacre said.

The A-League will become the first top-level domestic football league in the world to implement the Video Assistant Referee system.

The Phoenix host top of the table Sydney FC on Saturday night and need a win to keep alive their slim play-off hopes.
